and grand parures. Parures are sets which are produced by the same
designer or manufacturer to wear together. A demi is two pieces such
as a necklace and matching earrings. A parure usually includes 3-4
pieces such as a necklace, bracelet, earrings and brooch. A grand
parure has it all! Necklace, bracelet, earrings, brooch and ring.
There are many demi-parures of “married” pieces. These parures
may not have been manufactured by the same company, but the 2 or
more pieces marry well or go together well. If there is a necklace
which I believe marries well with a jewelry listing in another
category you will find a cross reference link included in the
listing. I wouldn’t steer you wrong! MEW is the queen of vintage
jewelry match making! If you are re-directed to another piece it
will match very close in metal color, stone color, proportion and
general design. Also remember when marrying pieces, most
people view you from an arms-length away. No one is scrutinizing
your accessories as close as you think. The whole picture is what
the observer finds pleasing.
