Norway Solje Silver .830 Peasant Brooch Signed S.I.F.

This solje brooch is late 19th or early 20th century as indicated by the tube hinge and c clasp closure. The maker's mark is 830S S.I.F. The style of the crown and heart indicates that this is a morgengave~the gift the bride would receive from her new husband on their first morning together. The three cross pendants indicate that the style also represents agnes Dei or the lamb of God. Solje brooches of this style were and are traditionally worn on the blouse placket or neckline of a regional peasant costume (bunad). They are also worn today on contemporary clothing. The soft tinkling of the spoons and the sparkly reflection make this a unique accessory which can be worn anytime. Truly a piece of jewelry from the past with a future. The dimensions are 4 1/4" L x 1 3/4" W. The condition is excellent.
